Chen Jiun-shan's academic interest lies in Social Policy, with a particular focus on research in the third sector, non-profit organization management, elderly welfare services, and sociology of aging. Subsequently, the academic scope has expanded to include community development, cultural and creative industries, local knowledge, community university studies, and gender studies due to various factors. However, the core of the exploration remains "policy governance," contemplating the possible models of "good governance" in each area while participating in policy planning and evaluation in each field.
In terms of social participation, Chen emphasizes balancing theory and practice. He not only explores the third sector and non-profit organizations, community development, and community universities from an academic perspective but also gets involved in these areas practically. In addition to serving as an advisor to the Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation, the Donghe Community Development Association (Walubu Tribe) in Nanzhuang Township, Miaoli County, and the Executive Director of the National Association for the Promotion of Community Universities, he has also served as a member of the evaluation committee for community university business promotion and subsidy review, and as a member of the university affairs evaluation committee and course review committee for various county and city governments' community universities, all with the goal of promoting "good governance" in relevant fields. Furthermore, he co-founded the Taiwan Dream City Building Association with academic friends, targeting homeless people and implementing the concept of "education changing individuals" through a combination of courses and companionship.
In terms of educational development, Chen has participated in the planning and promotion of community college business evaluation by the Ministry of Education's Department of Social Education and assisted in the planning and promotion of relevant legal systems for community universities under county and city governments. He has also been involved in consulting and implementation of projects related to elderly education, senior learning education, and learning cities under the Ministry of Education's Department of Lifelong Education. Currently, he is actively working on the conceptualization and development of forward-looking policies for the domestic lifelong education/lifelong learning system.
