　　我們探討如何利用計算語言學相關的技術與軟體以半自動的方式建立翻譯資料庫，除介紹重要的文獻之外，並透過實際測試anymalign多語詞對應程式及Moses統計式機器翻譯系統來評估半自動建立翻譯資料庫的可行性以及優缺點。我們從國外翻譯資料庫的發展與翻譯科技的進展，提出發展我國翻譯資料庫的策略。建置我國翻譯資料庫除可有助於翻譯產業的發展外，由於中英雙語平行語料可以同時支援中文英文兩種語言的檢索並得到兩種語言並列的例句，有助於提升國人的英語能力，縮減城鄉英語能力的差距，從而提升我國的競爭力。此外，資料庫資訊來自於國內文本，有助於國際人士瞭解我國的社會及文化，對於促進我國的觀光事業，提升國際能見度，亦有很大的助益。

　　In this chapter, we introduce the most relevant and important literature and discuss how to automate a translation database drawing on technologies from computational linguistics. We show the feasibility, advantages, and limitations of existing software by testing the anymalign multilingual word alignment tool and the Moses statistical machine translation toolkit. After a review of translation databases and translation technology available, we present the strategies of how to develop Chinese-English translation databases in the context of Taiwan.
