National Academy for Educational Research

Dr. Cheng Ching-Jun grew up in a rural town in Yunlin. After graduating from junior high school, Cheng entered the technical and vocational education system to study machinery manufacturing, during which he took the Training Course for Precision Machining Technology jointly run by the Affiliated Industrial Vocational High School of NCUE and Central Training Center and obtained the Level B technician license for precision mechanical work. Before pursuing his studies at a 2-year junior college, Cheng worked as frontline production workers at an optical company and a machinery manufacturing plant. Before graduating from the 2-year program offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering under Nan Kai Institute of Technology, Cheng passed the transfer examination for admission to the Night School Program for Social Work offered by Shih Chien University. The transfer marked his transition from the industrial to social science fields. After that, he was admitted to the master’s program offered by National Chung Cheng University Department of Criminology that enabled him to proceed directly to doctoral studies. During his school years, he majored in juvenile delinquency, which touches on the topics of drugs, gangs, and law education.
　　Having worked as an educator for 15 years across three universities while concurrently working in various administrative roles, Cheng participated in the General Education Innovation Project, Citizen Ceramics Project, Teaching Excellence Project, University Social Responsibility Project, and Experimental Project for Future University. Cheng is the principal investigator of the 1st to 4th “The Future is in my Hand: Open Call for Anti-drug and Anti-Bullying Micro Movie Competition” commissioned by the Ministry of Education. During his teaching period, Cheng engaged in the management of nonprofit organizations such as Lifeline Association Yunlin, Shixin Cultural & Educational Foundation, and Taiwan Public Affairs Development Association. In 2021, he was a faculty member in the Future College of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology while assuming administrative roles at the Center for Institutional Research and Development before seconded to the National Academy for Educational Research.
