As an official education think tank in Taiwan, the long-term research orientation of NAER includes the domains of Education Policy,Curriculum and Instruction,Test Assessment,Compilation,Translation and Language Education, Textbook,Indigenous Education and Leadership Talent.Through integrated research programs, we look ahead to the development requirements of national education, keep abreast of current trends, systematically collect long-term data, and objectively analyze and evaluate them in order to make evidence-based policy-advices.

Education Policy

Education research plays a crucial role in the process of education policy planning, implementation and effectiveness evaluation. Based on empirical data, we conduct long-term and systematic research on various education systems and policy issues at all levels, and continue to closely monitor the development trends of education policies in many countries. This enables us to provide the competent authorities with references for improving education policies and formulating future plans.

Curriculum and Instruction

Curriculum Guidelines presents the educational philosophy and curriculum development, as a basis for planning national education. NAER is responsible for research on curriculum guidelines, integrating international trends, teaching practices and long-term research outcomes to guide the reform and innovation of school curriculum and teaching, and to promote the sustainable development of the national curriculum.

Test Assessment

The Academy formulates literacy test questions in various fields, and utilizes long-term tracking and evaluation of student performance in Taiwan as supporting evidence for determining education policies. We evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum implementation, and engages in comparisons between Taiwan's education with global trends based on international survey results to explore the reasons that affect changes in students' academic attainments. This enables the Academy to understand the performance of the education system and identify the root causes of problems encountered.

Compilation, Translation and Language Education

In terms of research, we have established Mandarin, Chinese, English and Taiwanese corpora, and we analyze commonly used characters, words and sentence patterns to develop various integrated application systems.
In terms of content development, we are engaged in the editing and revision of the Ministry of Education’s Mandarin Chinese Dictionary, the translation of academic terms, the survey of commonly used words and phonetics, and collection of neologisms, as well as the development of learners’ dictionaries for primary schools and junior high schools.

Textbook

Textbooks are crucial educational resources for both teachers and students. The textbook review and approval process ensures the quality of the content of textbooks which include those for the nationally prescribed curriculum of elementary and junior high schools, as well as mandatory subjects in senior high schools. The current textbooks emphasize interdisciplinary integration, inquiry and practice application, and aesthetic design, guiding students towards competency-based education.

Indigenous Education

The goals of the Indigenous Education Act are to ensure equal educational opportunities for indigenous students and to establish a complete and sound indigenous education system. We plan research on various issues pertaining to indigenous education, evaluate the effectiveness of education policies, and provide references for policy formulation so as to realize the spirit and purpose of the Indigenous Education Act.

Leaders with professional competencies and enthusiasm for education are the fuel for the long-term development of education at all levels. We plan and design the training system for future school leaders, formulate approaches for promoting innovative management solutions, and have established a core team to push for growth and progress with the goal of enhancing administrative and teaching efficiency at all schools, thereby creating benefit for all students.
